“The Fault in Our Stars” is a story about young love. With young love comes challenges, but these two characters face more than the usual teenage drama. Augustus and Hazel both have forms of cancer. Hazel’s will never completely go away, and Augustus’ was supposed to not come back. Of course things never go according to plan. The two teens meet in a support group for kids with cancer, and they fall in love. Both characters are extremely smart and have many things in common, such as their love of reading old books. Augustus lives to please Hazel. He loves to make her happy, so when the chance comes to meet their favorite author, he uses HIS “Last Wish” (wish for kids with cancer) to take her to meet him. I loved the whole story line of the book! Hazel and Augustus’ love is so real, and they overcome many obstacles together.
The only thing I didn’t like was the excessive use of huge, dictionary-needed words. However, these words fit the characters’ personalities exactly. I would recommend this book to teenage girls. This can definitely be a tear-jerker. (Review by Kathleen M, 2013) Library Catalog
